The next few things were much more simple. By the end of that project I knew that I would be continuing on to make the rest of the outfit… in EVERY detail. But that holster–and the drive to see it made a reality–is where the whole thing started. I continued to refine that original holster… eventually swapping out the supplied shoulder strap for a belt, and adding a spare magazine pouch, as well as “D” rings on the rear… all to make it more screen accurate. BINGO! The quest for the props had begun. Since I work in an Army Surplus store, I just happened to have access to one, and tried it on. 45 Shoulder holster, only slung round the waist, instead of over the shoulder. After a good long time of pouring over the concept art, it began to dawn on me that it looked very much like a USGI WWII. For some reason that I still cannot explain, I was instantly captivated by the look of that holster. I began the process of acquiring the props with the holster. Your props are fantastic in Lara’s newest costume – can you run through the process of making or acquiring them? I imagine I’m not the only one who has thought so. also, I have been VERY pleased to find that this version of Lara is far more down to Earth and realistic than previous iterations have been. I’ve begun work on making the Grapple Gun, as mentioned, and as soon as that is completed I’ll be turning my attention to choosing exactly which outfit I’m going to replicate, and begin collecting fabrics to construct it.Īs to why I’ve fallen so for this latest version of Lara… I reckon that’s got to do with the fact that I never have been able to resist an origin story… particularly when it points the way to the evolution of a character whom I love so dearly. I’ve created the Gear belt, Dual Holsters with Matching USP Pistols, Grenades, Binoculars, etc… I’ve also made a backpack and shoulder harness from elements of three existing backpacks. My Gear rig is now about 80% complete, with only my Grapple Gun prop yet to be finished. However, I have recently begun working on a version of Lara’s main outfit from Tomb Raider Underworld. Those outfits are now long gone… part of another life which I’ve all but left behind. I haven’t got any photographic evidence of my Classic outfit, or the Angel of Darkness outfit which followed it. I’ve played every blessed one of them, and have loved Ms. Though I have really been swept up with Reborn Lara lately, I first started making replicas of her outfit beginning with the classic look from the very first Tomb Raider game. Though I’ve only ever been to two Conventions in my life, I have ALWAYS loved creating costumes of my favourite characters… and have always striven to make them as complete and realistic as possible. I’ve been costuming on my own for a good 15 years. How long have you been cosplaying, and do you have any other Lara costumes under your belt? Any planned for the future? I chatted briefly with Kristen about her work, and she was quite willing to share some tips and tricks! Her thoughts below are a great resource for any cosplayer tackling a character that is a bit rough around the edges. Kristen Anne’s newest Lara Croft costume is fantastic all around, but I was particularly drawn to her eye for distressing props and clothing. Lara Croft Cosplay Tips and Tricks by Kristen Anne
